Karen Carlisle started ringing in 1975. She began directing a junior high/high school handbell choir in San Jose and fell in love with Hawaii when the group attended a handbell festival on the Big Island in 1992. Three years later, she moved to Oahu, and she now directs two church groups and co-directs a community group in Hawaii. Karen has been the Area 12 Hawaii Regional Coordinator since 2005. She spends every chance she gets solo ringing, playing duets with her husband, Dan (who she met through handbells), and ringing and directing handbells.
