Area 12 Nominations Now Open

Every two years, three Area 12 Executive Committee officers are elected:  Chair-Elect (six-year term, two as Chair-Elect, two as Chair and two as Past-Chair), Secretary (two-year term, with possible re-election for second subsequent term) and Treasurer (two-year term, with possible re-election for second subsequent term).

To be eligible to be considered as a candidate for one of these offices, potential candidates must be a voting member in good standing of the Handbell Musicians of America and reside in Area 12 (California, Hawaii, Nevada and US Pacific Islands).

Such eligible persons may self nominate, or nominate others who are eligible and willing to serve if elected.

For duties and responsibilities of each office, you can read the descriptions in the Bylaws and Rules of Procedure.  References for each office listed below.

The Chair-Elect shall perform such duties as assigned to him or her by the Chair or the area board. In the absence of the Chair, the Chair-Elect shall preside at all meetings of the area board and assume the duties of the Chair as determined by the area board.  Leadership, organization, good people skills and follow-through required.  See Bylaws Article V, VI; Rules of Procedure Article III.B (Chair), III.C (Chair-Elect), III.D (Past-Chair).

The Secretary shall be responsible for maintaining all written documents of the area board. The Secretary is responsible for maintaining minutes of all meetings of the area board and the Executive Committee and for performing such other duties as assigned to him or her by the Chair or the area board.  Attention to detail, follow-through, and task management required. Documents include agendas, board officer reports, minutes, correspondence, Book of Motions, Rules of Procedure, and Bylaws.  See Bylaws Article V, VI; Rules of Procedure Article III.E.

The Treasurer shall be responsible for the safekeeping of all monetary assets of the area and for reporting thereon as requested by the Chair or the area board. The Treasurer will also be responsible for performing such other duties as assigned to him or her by the Chair or the area board.  Basic accounting and financial handling skills, integrity, and follow-through required.  Prompt billing and bill payment needed.  See Bylaws Article V, VI; Rules of Procedure Article III.F.

To nominate an individual, please contact the Past-Chair (Chair of the Nominating Committee) with the candidate’s name, contact information, office being nominated for, why this candidate should be considered for that office, and name and contact information of one or two character references (e.g., Area 12 Board members, church pastor, school principal).

Nominations must be submitted by April 15, 2024. Deadline extended to April 30, 2024.
